I applied to create National Beat Poetry Day on February 19th.
On the 22nd, I met with organizers at a community arts foundation to talk about working together to honor National Poetry Month.
On February 23rd it became official: October 7th is National Beat Poetry Day.
Then word came down that Lawrence Ferlinghetti died on the evening of the 22nd, less than three weeks shy of his 102nd birthday.
I've always said life is poetry, but the truth is death is poetry, too.
I was working on the first Vowel Mouth Poetry podcast when all this went down.
I haven't gotten ANY housecleaning done, but I did iron my husband's work shirts.
Long live Beat Poetry.
