As my alter ego (or maybe just my ego), the Vowel Mouth Poet, I f i n a l l y created a podcast this week, using Anchor. I emphasize f i n a l l y because I downloaded Anchor on my phone last July (seven months ago!) and ever since then, I've been making excuses to hide the fact that I just felt too intimidated to try it. I mean, I got to the sign-up page and I was like, "Uh-uh.. nah, this is all just a little too much. I'm too exhausted to think of a new password. I can't scroll through stuff and make decisions right now...."
Just to be claro, I'm not making money to write this, I'm just trying to get you to leave a message for the Vowel Mouth Poetry Podcast.
What's good about signing up for Anchor is that there are cool things you can do with it, even if you have no intention of ever making a podcast. And one of those cool things is to leave a spoken word message at Vowel Mouth Poetry.
What's cool about that? Well, a few things.
You get to read your poetry to an audience (and don't worry, if you flub your lines you can start over a hundred times if you want to).
You might hear yourself on a future episode of the Vowel Mouth Poetry Podcast - which aims to be a different kind of poetry podcast.
You could become a published poet. Your poem could be included in an upcoming anthology tentatively entitled Leave-a-Message (Voicemail Poetry). And because you signed up for Anchor to do it, you can remain anonymous in your message if you want, and I can contact you confidentially to get your info, should your message be accepted for publication.
I know how frustrating it is to have to jump through a bunch of hoops trying to get your poetry published, or trying to get to an open mic, or a spoken word event that's just a little too far away. So, while I have the chance, I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for poets to perform their poetry, and submit their work for publication and podcast "air play."
I'm doing things I wish were around when I was a younger poet. I think it provides community enrichment to encourage & promote poetic creative expression.
So try the Anchor thing. It really is easy. Then leave your spoken word poetry messages for me.
If you had signed up when you started reading this, you could've left 10 message by now.
YOU GET ONE MINUTE PER MESSAGE. Not all will be accepted, but all will be considered. Bring your A-Game.
For real. Not a cult. Not looking for money. Just trying to do cool poetry stuff. You retain all rights to your work. You don't even have to listen to the podcast.
But, I mean, you should check it out because it's super weird.
